Archie R. Unzicker, 90, of Eureka passed away at 1:26 a.m. on Monday, March 24, 2008 at BroMenn Regional Medical Center in Normal.

He was born on April 7, 1917 in Woodford County, IL a son of Samuel E. and Sarah L. Stieder Unzicker. He married Virginia Kathryn King on February 1, 1939 in Eureka. She died on September 18, 1993. He later married Ruth E. Ehling on January 10, 1998 in Eureka. She survives.

Survivors include three sons, Royal (Sue) Unzicker of Sellersville, PA; Robert (Wendy) Unzicker of Deer Creek; Dallas (Theresa) Unzicker of El Paso; three daughters, Jane (Jerry) Schumacher of Eureka; Carol (Jim) Schweitzer of Albany, OR; Leanna (Jerry) Miller of Elkhart, IN; step children, Judi (Jami) Tamman of Roanoke; Joe (Nancy) Yordy of Eureka; Jim (Peggy) Yordy of Flanagan; 21 grandchildren; five step grandchildren; 44 great grandchildren; and 13 great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Kent David; four sisters, one brother, two nieces, four nephews and one great grandson.

Archie worked as a farmer. While farming he was a partner with S.E. Unzicker and Sons seed corn company. He was a Lay minister for the Mennonite Board of Missions and Charities in Amity, IL. He also worked as a salesman for several companies, retiring from DMI in Goodfield.

Archie was a member of the Roanoke Mennonite Church and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program.

He loved people and enjoyed serving coffee daily to the residents at Maple Lawn Homes. He also provided spiritual inspiration through weekly fire side chats to the residents up until the past year. Archie will always be remembered for his endless stories, his pocketful of candy, and for never leaving home without a neck tie.

Memorial services will be at 11a.m. on Friday March 28, 2008 at Roanoke Mennonite Church. The Rev. Doug Hicks will officiate. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday March 27, 2008 at Roanoke Mennonite Church Fellowship Hall. Private burial will be at Stewart Harmony Cemetery in Metamora. An additional memorial service will be held at 3p.m.on Friday March 28, 2008 at Maple Lawn Homes in Eureka.
