Empty Boat sparks search.

An empty boat on Bighorn Lake leads authorities to believe that a Billings man may have drowned Saturday in the reservoir behind Yellowtail Dam.

Rangers began searching Saturday afternoon for George N. Cantrell, 55, whose boat was found floating in a cove about a miles south of the Ok-a-beh public access area.

Arthur Sullivan superintendent of the Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area, said "we have no confirmation yet that there is an actual drowning.

Sullivan said the man left his Billings home Thursday and had not been heard of since.

When the boat was found by rangers at mid after noon Saturday, the tackle box was open and fishing line was hung over the boat and was tangled in some underwater brush holding the boat in place.

Rangers, Big Horn County Sheriff's men and Fish and Game workers patrolled the area Saturday afternoon and night searching for Cantrell and asking people in the vicinity if they'd seen him.

"But we've come to a dead end," Sullivan said.

We initiate dragging operations Sunday Morning in the area where we think the victim may have fallen in the water, ' he said.
