Esther Margaret (Wolpert) Carmany, 92, of Worthington and formerly of Marysville, died peacefully Friday morning, June 16, 2023, at Wesley Glen Retirement Community.

She was born October 25, 1930, to the late Carl and Clara (Eickemeyer) Wolpert in Marysville. She was a pastor's wife, a public-school teacher, and a church worker in the five churches where her husband served as pastor in South Bend, Indiana; Fontana, California; Canton, Ohio; Suffolk, Virginia; and Marysville, Ohio.

Esther was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Marysville where she was confirmed in 1944, and served in the bell choir and Ladies Aid/LWML. She also served for fifteen years as secretary of the Veterans Remembrance Committee, helping build the monument for the Veterans of Union County.

She was a 1948 graduate of Union Local High School and a 1952 graduate of Capital University.

Esther was predeceased by her parents and by her husband, Dr. Paul Glenn Carmany; her four brothers, George Henry Wolpert (KIA in WW2), Bernard Wolpert, Herbert Carl Wolpert and Walter Wolpert; three sisters Ruth Schroer, Martha Wolff, and Lois Nicol; sister-in-law Beverlee Taylor Wolpert; brothers-in-law Sherwood Schroer, Herbert Nicol, and Lester Wolff; her nephews Mark Schroer and Joe Nicol; her niece Mary Beth Nicol; and her great nephew Jacob Repasky. She is survived by her sister-in-law Phyllis Wolpert and by her foster sister Libbie (Neil) Johnson.

She is survived by her children, Stephen (Connie) Carmany, David Nelson Carmany (Kristin Nelson, Partner) and Peg Carmany (Dr. Robert Perry).

Esther is also survived by her fourteen grandchildren, Matthew (Laura) Carmany, Lisa (Peter) Maclennan, Timothy Carmany, Lydia Carmany, Deborah Carmany, David John (Casey) Carmany, Daniel Carmany, Christy (Mark) Diaz, Brian Carmany, Diana (Kevin) Cushing, Alex Manifold, Elisabeth Kimmerle (Robert) Shepherd, Jessica Perry (Robert Rinnooy Kan) and Alex Perry; and 21 great grandchildren, Luke Donovan Diaz, Connor Cushing, Kennedy Cushing, Josiah Carmany, Nathanael Carmany, Micah Carmany, Moriah Carmany, Emelia Maclennan, Roderick Maclennan, Oliver Maclennan, Margaret Maclennan, Genevieve Maclennan, Theodore Maclennan, Elizabeth Maxwell, Eleanor Maxwell, Cooper Maxwell, Olive Carmany, Pip Carmany, Robert Caspian Shepherd, Benjamin Paul Shepherd and Violet Rinnooy Kan.

She is also survived by nieces and nephews, Robert Schroer (Lyla Rice, partner), Tom Schroer (Rebecca Hawkins), Sylvia Armellini (Jim Coburn, partner), Roger Schroer (Kay), Paul Wolff (Carla), Susan Crusey (Tim), John Wolff (Martha), Rebecca Repasky (Jerry), Ted Nicol (Jeannie), Emily Choate (Gordon), Amy Brack, Paul (Cindy) Wright, Doug (Lynn) Wright, Evelyn (Sean) McConaha, Gary (Rita) Johnson, Mark (Debbie) Johnson; and many great nieces, great nephews, as well as her church friends.

Funeral services celebrating Esther's life will be held 11 am Monday, June 26, 2023, at St. John's Lutheran Church, 12809 OH-736, Marysville, with Pastor Jack Heino Officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Friends may call 1 hour prior to service time beginning at 10 am at the church.

In Esther's memory, memorial contributions may be made to the Veterans Remembrance of Union Count or St. John's Lutheran Church.
