BEN DUDLEY DEAD.

The following obituary notice was handed to us yesterday for publication:

The long illness of Benj. Dudley was brought to a close at 10 o'clock p. m. July 28, 1898. His death was momentarily expected for several days before it came.

He was conscious until about an hour of his death, making several requests and talking with Rev. Buckley, whom he had voluntarily called to his bedside to religiously comfort him in his last hours. He had known for some time that his disease would prove fatal and had accordingly arranged his business affairs in the trust of his wife.

Mr. Dudley was at the time of his death fifty-four years, six months and fourteen days of age. He was a native of Indiana, but spent the early part of his life in Missouri and Kansas.

He was married to Miss Harriet Neal in 1870, and eight children have since been born to them. Four of these are grown and will be of much comfort to the bereaved mother and younger children.

Mr. Dudley was one of the early pioneers of Dakota and Wyoming. He came to the Black Hills in 1877 but thought it too wild for a young family so he moved to Nebraska. He returned to the Hills with his family in 1882, soon moving upon his present home where he has since resided.

Mr. Dudley leaves a wife and eight children, a brother and two sisters and scores of friends to mourn his untimely death. The funeral services were held at the house by Rev. Buckley at 2 o'clock p. m. July 29, and the procession started for Mt. Moriah cemetery immediately after.
