John Alvin Overby, 70, husband of Alice Slaughter Overby, died Saturday, December 17, 2005 at McGuire V.A. Hospital. Born on April 28, 1935 in Nelson, VA, the son of William Henry and Ivy Overby, he was raised in Nelson. John served in the U.S Army and was a retired farmer. Funeral services will be 2PM Monday at Watkins Cooper Lyon Chapel, with The Reverend Jim McAlister officiating. Interment to follow at the Overby Family Cemetery. Mr. Overby is also survived by sons & daughters in-laws, Johnny and Anna Overby of Nelson, Ronnie and Wanda Overby of South Boston; daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy O. and Glen Klein of Nelson, Kay O. and Rex Gordon of Nelson, and Sandra O. and James Limerick of Nelson; a daughter in-law Diana Overby of Boydton; a sister Clara (Nancy) Cole of South Boston and a brother Frankie Overby of Virgilina; 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son Jerry Overby. The family will receive friends from 7-9PM Sunday at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home.
