W Carroll Flynn died in the hospital at Sparta Wednesday morning at 7:15 after having been there for about 10 days. Had he lived until July 14, he would have reached his 51st birthday. Death was due to 2 paralytic strokes and other complications.
Mr Flynn is survived by his wife; 2 sons, Baxter and Dafil; 2 daughters, Emma and Ellen. Also 3 brothers, John, T W and C E, all of this county; Mrs T L Vandever, this county; Mrs C E Lowrey, Lyles, White county; Mrs J W Shepard, LaGrange, Ga; P A Flynn, Stockton, Ca; Mrs W S Reed, Bogota, NJ.
The funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday morning at the Church of Christ, followed by interment at Flynn Cove near his home.
The deceased had much experience as a road builder and was twice elected road commissioner of this county. He was first elected for a term of a few months, pending the coming of the regular election last August. At that election he was re-elected by a heavy majority. A short time after his election he sustained a paralytic stroke that affected his left side and from that time his health continued to fail and he was unable to give to his duties of Road Commissioner the attention that he desired. Under his direction, his brother, Thomas W Flynn, who had served 3 terms as county trustee, looked after the work.
His brother, Phillip Flynn, Stockton, California, was notified of his serious condition when he was taken to the hospital at Sparta, and came by plane to Murfreesboro where he was met by a car and taken to Sparta. He reached the bedside of his brother about 4 days before he passed away. Other relatives from this and nearby states came to be at his bedside. As his strength gradually waned, no one was permitted to see him for more than a few minutes at a time. The deceased realized his condition and faced the future without fear.
Mr Flynn had lived on a farm in this county practically all of his life and was respected by a large circle of friends. His passing is a source of much regret to many who learned to know him intimately.
