Professional Football Player. For eight seasons (1960 to 1967), he played at the halfback and fullback positions in the National and Canadian Football Leagues with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Cleveland Browns, Atlanta Falcons, and Montreal Alouettes. Born Charles Anderson Scales, he made his initial impression on the football field during his years at Homestead High School in Pennsylvania. He enrolled at State Teachers College at Indiana (Indiana, Pennsylvania), where he played collegiate football, and following graduation, he was signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers as a non-drafted free agent. He totaled 87 career regular-season NFL games, and in 1964, he experienced a world championship with the Browns and part of their ground attack, which included Hall of Fame players Jim Brown and Leroy Kelly. In 1966, he had the distinction of being a part of the Atlanta Falcons' roster during their inaugural season.
