The following information about John Crawford is taken from J. Douglas Bradshaw's outstanding book, "The Family of Michael Curren & Sarah Crawford of Columbiana County, Ohio" (pp. 163-164):

"John Crawford's name first appears in the public records of Brooke Co., Va. (now W. Va.) 7 May 1792 when he took title to 200 acres of land ... ‘on the waters of the Buffelow' …

"The tax records of Brooke Co. Va. Reveal that John Crawford paid taxes on 200 acres of land on the waters of Buffalo Creek, 2 miles east of the Court House, in 1799 and each year thereafter thru 1822...

"John Crawford died in Brooke Co., Va. 17 Aug. 1824 and is buried there is the Lower Buffalo Cemetery where his gravestone recorded that he was aged 81 years. His wife, Mary, preceded him in death by 6 months, she having died in January 1824. The gravestone inscriptions are no longer legible."
