On Sunday, November 28, 2021, John Francis Abbott, Jr., 89, of Leverett, was called home to Heaven.
He was the son of the late Elizabeth Watkins and John F. Abbott, Sr.

People who spent time with John knew he loved Jesus, his Savior; family, most especially Charlotte, his wife of seventy years; and the railroad, where he worked for forty-one years.

After his retirement from Amtrak in 1996, John enjoyed devoting time to researching his family's genealogy and sharing what he learned with others.

John and Charlotte had five children, Christy Finkbeiner, Susan Scott, Johnny Abbott (Roberta), Charlie Abbott (Janice), and Sarah Abbott, along with eleven grandchildren, and eighteen great-grandchildren. John was the brother of Beverly, Ronnie and Joyce.

People often describe John as a sweet, kind, and gentle man. These attributes were the result of God's incredible, life-changing work in him over the past fifty years. While his family will spend the remainder of their days missing this wonderful patriarch of the family, they are both confident in the reunion that will come and comforted in the knowledge that he is in Heaven… and that makes all the difference. "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints." Ps. 116:15.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
