Charles W. Manley

Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Bancroft Baptist church for Charles W. Manley, 81, a lifelong resident of Portage county. He died last Thursday at the Portage county infirmary, where he had been a patient the past year and one-half.

Mr. Manley, who lived in Bancroft in recent years, was clerk of its High school over a long period. He previously farmed in the town of Almond, where he was born.

He was born Oct. 28, 1873, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Monroe Manley, and at the time of his death was the last surviving member of that family. He was married to the former Celia McIntee Dec. 24, 1894. His wife preceded him in death in April 1946.

Mr. Manley was a member of the Plainfield Masonic lodge and the Modern Woodmen of America, of which he was clerk.

Surviving are 11 children, all of whom were present at the funeral:
Edward Manley and Mrs. Frank Wallner, Nashotah; Fred Manley, Crandon; Mrs. Ralph Chase, Mrs. Lawrence Leach and Mrs. Frank Leach, Fond du Lac; Mrs. Clarence Pagel, West Allis; Mrs. Elmer Stacey, Waukesha; Ben Manley, Wisconsin Rapids; Lewis Manley, Casco, Wis., and Robert Manley, Hartland.

Rev. Asa Hoskins officiated at the services, with burial made in Lone Pine cemetery. Masonic services were conducted at graveside.

The pallbearers were Clarence Pagel, Elmer Stacey, Ralph Stacey, Ralp Chase, Frank Leach, and Frank Wallner, all sons-in-law of Mr. Manley.

During the services, hymns were provided by Mrs. Jesse L. Judd and Mrs. Warren Pratt.

A number of relatives and friends from this vicinity, as well as the families of the children, attended the services
