Francis "Fran" H. Ryan, 82, of 605 Bluff St. in Kingsford, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2003, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
Fran was born Nov. 7, 1920, in Grand Rapids, Minn. and has been a lifelong resident of this area. He married the former Kathy Willing on Oct. 25, 1941, in Kingsford.
He worked for Ford Motor Co. and he was the manager of the Iron Mountain-Kingsford Transit Lines. He retired in 1981 after many years with the city of Kingsford.
Fran loved traveling and taking care of his cars. He enjoyed bowling, listening to music and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. He was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church.
He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Claude and Clara Hughs; a son, Terry Ryan and a brother, Jack Ryan. He is survived by his wife, Kathy; two sons, Duane (Debbie) Ryan of Iron Mountain and Randy (Renee) Ryan of Quinnesec; five grandchildren, Lisa (Keith) Baldwin of Kingsford; Darren Ryan of Iron Mountain, Kelly (Kirk) Benjamin of Kingsford, Miranda Ryan of Green Bay, Wis. and Mallory Ryan of Quinnesec; seven great-grandchildren, Brad and Kevyn Ryan, Nathan and Nick Baldwin, Brienna Ryan, and Kameron and Kyle Benjamin.
Visitation was from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church in Kingsford. Funeral services were at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the church. Rev. Michael March officiated. Burial was in the Quinnesec Cemetery. The family entrusted Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the funeral arrangements.
