John Guess Buried in Arizona
John W. (Wallace) Guess was born June 17 1889 in Lake Valley (GRANT CO. ). In 1899 the family moved to Animas. AT THE TIME OF HIS DEATH, HE LIVED AT STEINS ON HIS RANCH INHERITED FROM HIS MOTHER, DOLCIE GUESS.
Mr. Guess a longtime rancher in the area, served in the United States Army in Siberia with the 31st Infantry Reg. during World War I. After his Army service he moved to Steins, New Mexico, where he lived the rest of his life on his ranch which he inherited from his mother, Dolcie when she passed away. After Henry died, Dolcie moved to the Kingman area, where she died in 1938. His father, William Henry Guess had already passed in 1924.
Mr. Guess (John) died Aug 8,1976 in Tucson and was buried at Globe.
He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Leroy Bradford, a grandson, David Morgan, and a grandaughter, Alice May Morgan, all of Seattle, Washington.

HIS SECOND MARRIAGE WAS TO ONA FLORENCE BARRETT BELSHE.
As I remember John, he was a very quiet and gentle man, and loved to sit in front of my grandparents Shell Station at Gary, and watch the kids play, as well as watch traffic go by. He an my dad developed a life long friendship which lasted until John died. John and Onie were well beloved and we considered them family (which Onie was anyway, her step-daughter Ivy Belshe had married to Nora White Brickey's brother, Jeneral White).
He always wore a scarf over his ears, because he had some type of ear problem when he was in WW I, and the wind would hurt his ears.
John Guess was a long time friend and neighbor of Hubert and Nora White Brickey. Nora and Onie were childhood friends and schoolmates in Madill, Marshall Co., OK. Grandma Nora told me that she and Onie had played baseball together at school when they were girls.
In the 1900 census the Guess family were at El Paso, Texas. And by 1910 they were at Rodeo, and then Steins by 1920 until John and Henry's deaths.

Shortly before his death, my parents went and picked John up and brought him to their home in Oracle, and he visited my parents for a day or so, John and Iva (Brickey) Cardell, and when he became ill they took him to the VA Hospital in Tucson where he died fairly soon. Afterward, my mother enjoyed a short visit from Leroy when she came to Oracle for a visit. John and Iva always tried to visit with John on the times when they would go to San Simon, since the ranch outside Steins always seemed lonely for him, especially after Onie passed away.
