Charles was a member of Friendship Baptist Church (Hudson Hill). He served in the United States Army and he was also a retired Longshoreman in Savannah, Georgia.

Charles was preceded in death by father, William Heyward, Sr., mother Luvenia Heyward, two sisters: Venetha Hulin and Nettie Heyward, and one brother, James Heyward.

Survivors include: his siblings; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Memorial Services were under the direction of Campbell & Sons Funeral Home, Inc., 124 W. Park Avenue, Savannah, Georgia 31401..
