Steve was the son of Donald E. and Jo Anne Osborn. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy where he served as an ABM3, though his wife, Susan, said he seldom spoke of his time in the service. Friends say he enjoyed life and was always happy, smiling and willing to lend a helping hand. He enjoyed the desert and polishing trucks. Having fallen on hard times, he was homeless at the time of his death from pneumonia. He received a burial with full military honors through Dignity Memorial's Homeless Veterans Burial Program, attended by veterans of the Army and the Navy, and friends from the homeless community. The folded flag from his casket was presented to his wife, Susan.
