Military records show his birth year to be between 1833 and 1841, but his birth record and 1850 census give his birth year as 1845. It is possible he lied about his age to be able to join the Union to fight in the Civil War.
Unfortunately, he was shot for Desertion on 28 August, 1863 in Morrisville, Virginia.
According to Walnut Grove Cemetery officials, he is buried here in Walnut Grove in North Brookfield, Massachusetts. They are not sure yet exactly where but believe he is buried by or close to the Civil War Cannon.
Enlisted in the Union Army on 6 August, 1862 in CO K, 20th Infantry Massachusetts.
