Robert Travers Marley, 77, of Taylorsville died Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at Carroll Hospice Dove House. Born June 27, 1930, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late John William "Will" Marley Sr. and Lillian M. Sullivan Marley. He was the husband of the late Maria Cecilia Collins Marley. He was a graduate of Calvert Hall, class of 1948, and had attended the University of Maryland, College Park. He was a veteran of the Army, having served during the post-war occupation of Japan. He was a retired nuclear engineer and metallurgist. During his career, he was most proud of his work on the U.S. Space Program and had been instrumental in launching the Viking and Pioneer satellites. Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law Linda Marley and Donald Lee Harrison of Westminster, Susanna Maria Marley and Richard Matthew Guering Jr. of Frizzelburg, and Patti Marley of Detour; a sister-in-law, Patricia Marley of Vienna, Va.; grandchildren Robert Marley Harrison, Bridget Mary Harrison and Richard M. Guering III; and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, John William "Bill" Marley Jr. A funeral liturgy will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Eldersburg, with the Rev. David McQuigan as celebrant. Interment will be in Lakeview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today, and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville. (Carroll Co Times - 3/26/2008)
