Wairarapa Daily Times, 24 April 1908
WEDDING. RACTLIFFE-JAMES
An event of much interest to a large number of Masterton and Wairarapa settlers took place yesterday when Mr Frank E. J. Ractliffe, nephew of Mr A. W. Cave, of Te Ore Ore, was married to Miss W. R. ('Minnie') James, third daughter of the late Henry James of Woodlands. The wedding took place at the residence of the bride's brother, Rev A. T. Thompson being the officiating clergyman. The bride was charmingly attired in white crepe-de-chine, with the usual veil and orange blossom and carried an exquisite bouquet of white flowers. She was given away by her brother, Mr J. M. James and was attended by her tow sisters, the Misses Lilian and Isabel James, as bridesmaids. The dresses of the bridesmaids were of white embroidered muslin and each carried a handsome bouquet. Mr W. A. Iorns was best man and Mr James groomsman. After the ceremony a large number of guests from all parts of Wairarapa partook of wedding breakfast, which was laid on tastefully decorated tables in a large marquee. In the evening an enjoyable dance was held. The large number of presents received bore testimony to the popularity of the young couple and the high esteem in which they are held by those who are acquainted with them. The presents were useful and many of them of a very costly nature. The scholars of the Wangaehu Sunday School (with which the bride has been connected for some time) presented a silver-mounted hair brush and mirror.
Mr and Mrs Ractliffe left Masterton by the afternoon train yesterday, for Napier, en route to Auckland, the bride's travelling dress being a navy blue costume and she wore a white hat. They carry with them the good wishes of a host of friends for their future happiness and prosperity, Mr Ractliffe has been well-known during the past ten years as manager of Mr A. W. Cave's farm at Te Ore Ore.
