In Loving Memory of Charles "Chod" "Charlie" Lloyd Cremer

September 26, 1931 – June 13, 2023

Charles Lloyd Cremer, known affectionately as Chod or Charlie, graced the world with his presence on September 26, 1931. From the very beginning, Chod's life radiated with warmth, love, and an unwavering spirit of inspiration.

Born to Moss and Lena Fern McLean Cremer in Wapello County, Iowa, Chod was the youngest of ten siblings. Growing up in a bustling household, he learned the value of compassion, resilience, and the power of family bonds. These foundational principles guided him throughout his remarkable journey.

On February 17, 1956, Chod embarked on a beautiful adventure of love and partnership when he married Beverlee Joan Staton. Together, they became a shining example of dedication and commitment, weathering life's storms hand in hand. Chod's unwavering love for Joan was a testament to the strength and depth of their bond, serving as a beacon of hope and inspiration for all who witnessed their enduring love story.

Chod's professional life was a testament to his hard work, dedication, and steady pursuit of excellence. He enlisted in the US Navy right out of high school in 1949 and served until 1954. He is a veteran of the Korean War and was immensely proud of his time spent aboard the USS Gungston Hall LSD-44. He served as secretary for his Naval reunion committee and helped coordinate their semi-annual events for many years. In 1955, Chod's career in the carton industry began in Ottumwa, Iowa at Butler Paper. He retired from Waldorf Corporation in Clinton, Iowa in 1995 after 40 years of serving as a Plant Manager, Production Manager, and Sales Representative. His professional contributions were marked by integrity, professionalism, and a genuine passion for his work. He served on the Agency City Council from October 2001 until January 2006. Chod's legacy is one of perseverance and determination, reminding us to pursue our dreams with determined commitment and make a lasting impact in everything we do.

Chod's list of community contributions includes 57 years of dedication to the Masonic Fraternity.
He served twice as Worshipful Master for Emulation Lodge #255 in Clinton, Iowa, was a member of Camanche Lodge #60 in Camanche, Iowa, and served as four-time Worshipful Master at Olive Branch Lodge #21 in Agency, Iowa. He received his Masonic Instructor Certificate in 1989 and his District Lecturer Certificate in 1991. He was the 2022 recipient of the T.S. Parvin Award at the 178th Annual Communication of the Grand Lodge of Iowa A.F. and A.M. for his contributions to masonry and his community. He was well-known in multiple communities for his outstanding volunteer work.

As a father, Chod instilled in his children, Mark Cremer, Dana Gilbert, and Charles "Marty" Cremer (Jill), the values of love, compassion, and the importance of pursuing one's passions. He nurtured their dreams, offering guidance and support every step of the way. Chod's children are a living testament to his influence, embodying his resolute spirit of determination and inspiring others to live life to the fullest.

Chod's impact extended beyond his immediate family. As a grandfather to Marissa (Sean) Baretich of Tucson, Arizona, Chod (Lindsey) Gilbert of North Liberty, Iowa, and Sam and Sarah Schmidt of Agency, Iowa he showered them with unconditional love and wisdom. Becoming a great-grandfather to Charlotte "Charli" Baretich and Danica "Dani" Baretich brought immeasurable joy to Chod's life. His legacy of inspiration lives on in the lives of these young ones. They will grow up knowing the impact their great-grandfather had on their family, and they will carry his spirit of determination, love, and compassion into the world. Chod's love and support also included many nieces, nephews, "greats", and friends that he loved like family. He could frequently be heard saying: "Never Look Back. Do it right the first time."

Chod's legacy of love, perseverance, and unwavering commitment to family and work will continue to inspire us to live our lives with purpose and kindness. May his memory serve as a reminder that we all possess the power to inspire and uplift those around us. Chod enveloped the simple philosophy of "just do something good", and it showed by his contribution to the Masonic fraternity, veterans organizations, family, friends and his community. He was a caring and loving husband, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to all who were blessed to know him.

As we bid farewell to our beloved Chod, let us celebrate his remarkable life, his enduring legacy, and the inspiration he instilled within us all. May his soul find eternal peace, and may his spirit forever be a guiding light in our lives.
