Mitchele "Mic" Rainwater Buffington
December 17, 1941 – June 13, 2023

Obituary from Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, Shreveport LA:
Mitchele "Mic" Rainwater Buffington passed silently while sleeping during the early morning hours of June 13, 2023. She quietly escaped from the crippled body that had been ravaged by Parkinson's and was ushered by a band of angels into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We're certain her beloved son, Joe Buffington, and throngs of other loved ones who have gone before were gathered there to greet her. What a reunion that was!!

She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Guy Jefferson Buffington, Sr. One sister: Fay Bowe of Mer Rouge, LA. Four of her five children: Guy Buffington, Jr, and wife, Susie, of Shreveport [children: Mary Buffington, Lynn Porteous (and Don), and Lauren Buffington]; Joe's widow, Sherri, of Shreveport [children: Taylor Brassfield (and Daniel) and Mitchell Buffington (and Arielle)]; Vicki Currens of Nunnelly, TN [children: Krystal Watson (and Ricky) and Amanda Currens]; Dianne "Dobber" Buffington of Wylie, TX [children: JM Johnston, Daniel Johnston (and Estefania), Briggs Johnston, and Matthew Johnston]; and David Buffington and wife, Amy, of Stonewall [children: Lindsay Stephens (and Logan), Katheryn Buffington, and Brian Buffington]. A passel of great grandchildren and a throng of nieces, nephews, and beloved extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her son: Joe Buffington, her granddaughter: Sonia Currens, her parents: Monroe and Bessie Rainwater; her brother: Edward Rainwater; her sisters: Glidie Mobley and June Buffington; and several in laws who were loved as siblings.

After being a homemaker for many years, Mic went to work at AT&T for 17 years beginning when her children were all in school. She later graduated from Southern University with a degree in Lab Technology and began working in the Trauma Lab at LSU hospital. When she retired, she and Guy took many road trips pulling their RV to see the US, visiting nearly all 48 of the contiguous states.

She enjoyed playing cards and dominos, fishing, tending her flower beds, tinkering in the woodshop, and dreaming up things for Pa/Poppa to build. She loved getting lost in a good book or on a genealogy escapade, having light saber wars using pool noodles, and laughing – Oh! She loved to laugh! We'd like to say that she enjoyed cooking, because she was really good at it! But we think she did it more as an expression of love for whomever asked her to make something special (like Banana Pudding or Chicken & Dumplings!).

A visitation for Mic will be held Saturday, June 17, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home & Park, followed by a celebration of life at 11:30 AM. She will be laid to rest in Centuries Memorial Park. Officiating the services will be her nephew, Jimmy Buie. Honoring her as pallbearers will be Nanny's grandsons, JM Johnston, Mitchell Buffington, Daniel Johnston, Briggs Johnston, Matthew Johnston, Brian Buffington, Don Porteous, Ricky Watson, Daniel Brassfield, and Logan Stephens, and Johnny Rousseau, her oldest great grandchild.

In Lieu of Flowers, her family would like you to consider making a donation in her name to Northwest Louisiana Parkinson's Resource (www.facebook.com/parkinsons.resource) or Lighthouse Baptist Church (formerly Temple Baptist Church; www.facebook.com/Lighthouse.Baptist.Church.Shreveport).

Her family would like to bestow their eternal thanks to the compassionate care givers of The Oaks of Louisiana, especially Ashley and Pam, and of Regional Hospice, especially Trish, Amy, April, and Joanne.
