Howard W. Cooper Jr, 96, of Kingsport, passed away at his home on Thursday June 8, 2023. He was born on May 16, 1927 in Memphis to Howard Sr and Ida Pitts Cooper. He was a Navy World War II veteran and was honorably discharged in August 1946. He graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1950 with a degree in Transportation and worked as a Traffic Rate Auditor at Mason-Dixon Lines for 24 years. He retired from Tennessee Dept. of Social Services. He married Martha Armstrong in 1949 and they had five children: John, Janet, Thomas, Jeffrey and Kimberly. He is survived by his wife Martha; his children Janet (Glenn Asher), Thomas, and Kimberly (Scott Treadway); daughter-in-law Kawana Cooper; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Virginia Appling, sons John and Jeffrey and granddaughter Aja Cooper. He was a member of Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church. The Cooper family with gather to greet friends and share memories on Saturday June 17, from 12pm - 1pm in the chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will follow at 1pm with Pastor Mike Pelham officiating. A Graveside Service will follow the Funeral and be held at: East Tennessee Cemetery
