2Lt James William Gilbride was born on 2nd February 1917 and killed 29th November 1943 when flying a P-38 Lightning to escort bombers to Bremen, Germany. He was shot down over Holland, by (probably) a German fighter and although he managed to bail out of his aircraft, he unfortunately had a parachute failure and was killed.
