Military: joined the U.S. Army Air Force at age 17, took his training at Columbia, Mo.; enrolled in flight school to be a pilot; however, the program was canceled because of the end of World War II.

Lived in Ravenna; worked for Burlington Railroad and at the Cornhusker Ammunition Plant with the Guard Force; began his career with the Postal Service in Ravenna, 1959; later served as postmaster in Rockville from 1980 until retiring 1988.
Was an avid historian, enjoyed preserving history through the use of the computer; enjoyed helping family members with many projects and stayed very active throughout his life; member of American Legion Post 332 for 63 years, a 50-year member of the United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of the Ravenna Masonic Lodge, a longtime member of the Eagles Lodge; member of the Ravenna Historical Society.
Survivors include his wife; daughters, Vicki Schmidt of Ravenna and Linda Ward of Loup City; sisters, Phyllis Spencer of Kearney and Helen Jacobson of Aurora; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren; also sons-in-law, Don Schmidt of Ravenna and Jim Ward of Loup City; and brother-in-law, Art Jacobson of Aurora.
