The son of Johannes "John" Jacob Balliet and Maria Barbara Schneider, Nicholas was born Feb 25,1774 in Egypt, Whitehall, Leigh County, Pa and was baptized on Mar 20, 1774 at Unionville Church, in Leigh. His sponsors were John Nicholas Saeger and Elizabeth, the wife of Felix Arner Source: pg 801; "The Balliet, Balliett, Balliette, Balyeat, Bolyard and Allied Families, 1968 by Stephen Clay Balliet, published by Thom J Moran's Sons, New Orleans, LA. He was a farmer and was married to Elizabeth Harriger, (1796-1860) and they had nine children: Elizabeth (1797-1811); Johannes (1798-1873 married to Margaret Sheidy); Mary (1799-1842 - married Nicholas Shiry); Stephen (1803-1881 - married to Rachel Rhodes); George (1810-1868 - married to Mary "Polly" Mays); Susan Margaret (1812-1813); Nicholas (1813-1853 - married to Mary Todd); Sarah (1821-1853- married to John Adam Mohney) and Rachel (1831-1914 - married to Enos Harriger).
