Noel J. Abkemeier was born in St. Louis, MO. Noel was a graduate of St. Louis University where he met his wife, Joann. He began his long career as an actuary starting with General American. He went to work for Allstate Insurance where he worked for 22 years. He retired from Milliman Inc. after 19 years of service. Retirement did not last long; Noel started his own consulting company in 2015, Abkemeier Actuarial where he worked until the day he died. Numbers and actuarial science were his passion.
He was a member of the Society of Actuaries, the Conference of Consulting Actuaries and the St. Louis University Alumni Association. He served as the president of the Glenview Public Library in Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William "Bill" Joseph Abkemeier and Elizabeth "Lee"Ann Mueth Abkemeier. He is survived by his wife, Joann Abkemeier; his children, Erik Abkemeier and his wife, Shannon Martin, Kristin Abkemeier and Kurt Abkemeier; his grandchildren, Andrew, Jonathan, Aaron and Kate Abkemeier and his siblings, Mary Lee Abkemeier and her husband, Wyley Peckham, and Bill Abkemeier and his wife, Mary.
