Born (March 24, 1947) the oldest of Jack and Betty Gray's children, many in the Ivy Log community watched Nancy turn from a shy youngster into a force for the Lord as she grew, both in age and her faith.
As the oldest of four children, Nancy was the go-to person for the younger ones. Who can forget Bruce's feet dragging the ground as she rocked him on weekends when she was home from college? And a bond never broken was forged between Nancy and Gwenelda because they were so close in age, and at times, acted more like twins than just sisters. Sherry and Nancy always thought how grateful they were that they started life as sisters, but developed a friendship unequaled by most, and so were doubly blessed.
Nancy married Rufus Everett in? Besides keeping the books for her husband's business, she stayed occupied reading and writing untold numbers of letters and cards to those who needed a Godly message. Rufus and Nancy were instrumental in founding and organizing the Good Neighbors Auto Club. Although the couple never had children of their own, the two were actively involved in the lives of their nieces and nephews.
Nancy remained a driving force for the Lord at Ivy Log Baptist Church, as well as anywhere anyone would listen to her message. When those carrying religious tracts would come to her door, she invited them in with the admonition that, "I'll listen to you, but then you have to hear about my Jesus." And that in a nutshell is the essence of Nancy's life. She was a willing volunteer for countless jobs at the church and in her community.
Nancy also kept herself busy with flowers, crafts, traveling with Rufus, but mostly trying to corral the rambunctiousness of her nieces and nephews. No idea was dismissed out of hand and many a mile was put on her car to go on a picnic or just see the sights. No idea for trying to cook a new food was ever considered too difficult and she passed that sense of adventure on to others.
