State Police Superintendent and Mrs. Harry I. Curtis, of Springfield, former Paxtonians, have been advised by the War Department that their son, 1LT Harry I. Curtis, Jr., a Thunderbolt fighter pilot with the 9th US Army Air Force in the European theater of operations, has been declared to be dead.

They were notified on Jan 9, 1946 that the youth, a graduate of Champaign High School, was missing in action December 24, 1945. At that time Mr. and Mrs. Curtis resided in Champaign where he was a battalion commander of the State Highway Police.

The 19 year old flyer, who was born in Paxton, attended high school there before the family moved to Champaign. He joined the Air Forces May 4, 1942. In addition to his parents, he leaves a sister, Pearl, and two younger brothers, Warren and Dwayne, both enrolled in Springfield schools.
