MADILL Services for Edith Elizabeth Hallmark Holt, 86, will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 25, 2008, in Watts Memorial Chapel with Brother Ron Brannan officiating and music arrangement by Sharon Jones. Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery.

Born Dec. 16, 1921, to Elbert and Fay Hallmark, Edith passed away Monday, March 24, 2008. Edith married the love of her life, Loyd "Sambo" Holt at the age of 17. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1987; parents; sisters, Nada Bartee, Doretha Stowers, Bert Huffman, Dorothy Hallmark, and Peggy Hallmark; brothers, Brad, Horace, Darrell, Dale, C.K., and Estle.

Edith grew up in the Durwood area and went to high school at Dickson. She spent her married life by Sambo's side, working in the fields, milking cows, and cutting wood. After moving to Madill, Edith worked as a store clerk at Baldwin's, Sharpe's, Trammell's, and Ward's Hardware, where she retired. She was active in the Assembly of God Church.

After Sambo's death, Edith moved with her sister, Doretha, to the Baptist Village where she had the time of her life. When Edith's health failed in 2001, she moved into the Brookside Nursing Home where she greeted everyone with "I love you" and a big smile, as she made her way down the halls.

Survivors include four brothers, Curtis Hallmark, Madill, Alton Hallmark, Blackwell, Howard Hallmark, Alamangordo, N.M., and Trent Hallmark, Big Lake, Texas; four children, Charlotte Goodwin and her husband, Sam, Madill, Joe Holt and his wife, Diane, Yukon, Brenda Courtney, Madill, and Jeanne Karns and her husband, Roger, Edmond; grandchildren, Brent and Stacia Goodwin, Twila Goodwin, Drs. Shannon and Pete Chambers, Dedra Holderby, Rodney and Maurine Holt, Stacy and Jim Ford, Chris and Laura Holt, Jeff Holt, Amy and Patrick McCain, Misty Cate, Courtney and B.J. Puckett, and Lindsey Karns; 17 great-grandchildren; many, many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the First Assembly of God Church, Building Fund, 209 East Overton, Madill, Oklahoma 73446.

Bearers will be Royce Bartee, Tony Bartee, Terry Bartee, Sam Huffman, Bruce Huffman, Kent Hallmark, Kirk Hallmark, and Jackie Pilgram.
