Verle Alene Shelby-Brown, passed peacefully from this earth on Monday, June 5th, 2023. She was born May 24th, 1939 in Manhattan, Kansas to Earl R. and Joy L. (Ward) Shelby. She graduated Seaman High school in 1958. Verle married John L. Brown on July 9th, 1961. They enjoyed many years together travelling, going to auctions, visiting family and friends, and taking long car rides to enjoy their favorite restaurants. The love of her life passed away on June 30th, 2014, which left an empty spot in her heart that could never be filled. She was a wonderful Aunt who enjoyed entertaining the young nieces and nephews at family gatherings. She had a wit and orneriness' about her that was still present even at the end of life. Puzzles, word searches and game shows were her favorite hobbies.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister Earline Rathbun (2019), and her twin brother Burle Shelby (2022).

She was employed by Hallmark Cards for over 53 years. She worked in many capacities at Hallmark, and truly felt like it was a second family for her and John.

She has many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and numerous friends and church family that will certainly miss her.

Visitation will be on Friday, June 9th, 2023 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Davidson Funeral Home. Funeral service will take place on Saturday, June 10th, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Grantville United Methodist Church. Internment will take place at Grantville Cemetery.
