Roy Lee Kintz was born in West Branch, Iowa to Roy and Fern Kintz on February 10, 1934.
The home they were living in at the time had been the childhood schoolhouse of Herbert Hoover until it was converted into an apartment. The schoolhouse was moved to the site of the museum and restored to its original state as a schoolhouse. Roy was selected to build the chimney in his former birthplace. Anyone is free to visit the Birthplace of Roy Lee Kintz which is also a national historic landmark.
Roy graduated from West Branch High School in 1951.
His career began as an apprentice in the Bricklayers Union in 1953.
He served in the US Army from 1955 to 1957.
In 1958, he married Rose Marie Grommesh and they were parents to two sons of Coralville.
His wife Rose Marie Kintz passed away in 2003.
In 2004, Roy married Edna Nurre Kintz and was later divorced in 2014. They remained as best friends until his passing.
Roy was a Gold Card Member of the Bricklayers Union and worked on many area projects. He retired from Seedorf Masonry.
Roy enjoyed traveling and gardening.
The family requests that memorial donations be made to the American Lung Association and Washington Iowa Hospice/Compassus.
Visitation will be at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids on Thursday, June 8, from 5 to 7 p.m. The funeral will be held on Friday, June 9 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with committal at West Branch Cemetery thereafter.
