He was born on March 1, 1944, in Richlands, Va., to the late Willard Leonard Osborne and Beulah Viola Stillwell Osborne.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Mona Pearl Short Osborne; an infant son; four brothers, Danny Osborne, Sterling Osborne, Roger Osborne and Eugene Osborne; two sisters, Betty Smith and Annie Miller and an infant sister.
Melvin enjoyed fishing, hunting and working in his garden.
Survivors include one daughter, Shelia Rasnake and husband, John; one grandson, Shane Rasnake and fiancé, Santana Nipper; one granddaughter, Maggie Rasnake; one step granddaughter, Kayla Rasnake; four great grandchildren, Bryson Rasnake, Isabella Rasnake, Grace Lynn Rasnake and Hunter Edwards, one step great grandchild, Tyler Ward; two brothers, Bobby Osborne and wife, Madge and Jerry Osborne' four sisters, Mae Miller, Doris Mitchell and husband, Chester, Sylvia Miller and husband, Mack and Brenda Short; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, June 7, 2023, in Singleton Funeral Service Chapel at Cedar Bluff, Va., with Rev. Billy Clifton officiating. Interment will follow in the Osborne Family Cemetery at Osborne Mountain. The family will be receiving friends from 12 noon until the time of service.
Pallbearers will be John Rasnake, Shane Rasnake, Bobby Osborne, Jerry Osborne, Chris Short, Chris Blackburn and Chester Mitchell. His granddaughter and great grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.
