Ethel Weir, age 98, of Aurora, formerly of Hastings passed away Monday, June 5, 2023, at Westfield Quality Care.

A Memorial Mass will be held 10:30 A.M. Saturday, June 10th at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Aurora. Rev. Mark Seiker will officiate.

The Rosary will be recited at 9:30 A.M. prior to the Mass.

Ethel's ashes will be taken to Iowa to be buried at a later date.

Ethel Cecelia Weir, the daughter of Matthew and Vivienne (McCarty) Weir, was born in Archer, Iowa on April 5, 1925 and passed away in Aurora, Nebraska on June 5, 2023, at the age of 98.

She grew up in Sheldon, Iowa and graduated from Sheldon High School.

Ethel spent most of her career working at Woodmen of the World in Omaha, Nebraska.

She spent her retirement in Hastings, Nebraska teaching art and creating artwork.

Ethel was a member of the Omaha Walking Club and an oblate with the Order of St. Benedict.

She enjoyed playing cards and creating art.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Lionel Weir and three sisters, Veronica Karpen, Rosella Boeding and Audrey Weir.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sister, Loretta McKenzie of Council Bluffs, Iowa and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
