Sergeant Williams, 26, of Tarboro, North Carolina. Always called Blake by his family, he was a 2000 graduate of Tarboro High School. Blake enlisted in the National Guard in July, 2003. His first tour of duty in Iraq was with the 105th Military Police Battalion and he was on his second tour of duty with the 1132nd Military Police Company, North Carolina Army National Guard, Rocky Mount, North Carolina, when he was killed along with two other members of his unit when their vehicle encountered an improvised explosive device. He received the Combat Action Badge and the Army Commendation Medal. Posthumous awards include the Bronze Star and The Purple Heart. Sergeant Williams is survived by his mother, Susan Leggett Williams; sister, Mary Beth Williams; maternal grandparents, Mary and Earl Leggett; nephew, Damian S. Williams, all of Tarboro. He was preceded in death by his father, John David Williams and a brother John Williams.
