Ralph was a devoted Christian and long-time member of Hueytown Baptist Church, where he was a Deacon, taught Sunday School and paid visits to church members of all ages to provide comfort and counseling. He proudly served in the United States Army for 18 years, first in Europe in World War II and again in Europe during the Korean War. While in the military he served in the Tactical Nuclear Weapons program. He attended college at Jacksonville State University on the GI Bill but left before graduating to serve in the Korean War. After his military service ended, he received a bachelor's degree and a teaching certificate from UAB. He loved teaching and taught electronics at Homewood High School for many years. He was an avid bowler, having won numerous trophies. He also enjoyed traveling extensively and visited many countries especially in his later years.
He loved attending the Whitmore family reunion every August where we had hoped to celebrate his 100th birthday in 2023. He had done extensive research on the Whitmore family genealogy.
