Frank P. Chiffy, "Chif", of Utica, NY, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2023 at the age of 90.

Frank was predeceased by his parents, Philip Chiffy and Isabel Falbo Chiffy.

Frank attended Utica public schools and was a graduate of Proctor High School, Mohawk Valley Community College and Utica College class of 1959. Upon graduation from Mohawk Valley Community College, Frank began working at General Electric as a radar test man. Frank then served his country for two years in the US Army as a Microwave Communications Technician. He was assigned to Fort Gordon, Georgia where he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. Also, during his time at Fort Gordon, he was a member of the base diving team, winning several competitions. After returning home from the Army, Frank resumed employment at General Electric while simultaneously working to complete his bachelor's degree in physics from Utica College. In June 1962, GE awarded Frank the prestigious Key Man Award for original thinking on a Navy program. In April 1963 Frank began a 31-year career at Rome Air Development Center, holding various positions including Program Manager for numerous multi-million-dollar research and development projects contributing significantly to our nation's defense and security.

Frank was very active in various affiliations around the region including Chairman of the Utica Rome Institute of Electronics - Electrical Engineering Section, Chairman of the Utica Rome Institute of the Mohawk Valley Engineering Executive Counsel, Member of Industry Labor Education Counsel, Board member on the Mohawk Valley Applied Technology Commission, and the Armed Forces Communications Electronic Association. Upon retirement from Rome Labs, he joined Mohawk Valley Community College as an adjunct instructor in math, electronics, and electricity.

Frank loved sports. In high school he played football, ran track and was an accomplished gymnast. His love for gymnastics continued as he began to officiate both high school and college level meets. He founded the Mohawk Valley Gymnastics Officials Association in 1962 and later became the only official qualified in the Mohawk Valley to judge Eastern Collegiate Athletic Association and NCAA meets. Frank was regarded as an expert on International Gymnastic Federation codes used to officiate NCAA, World, and Olympic competitions leading to his qualification to officiate at the 1980 Olympic games. In June 2014, he was inducted into the Greater Utica's Sports Hall of Fame.

Frank is survived by his loving wife, Mary Lourdes Gorgon Comito Chiffy with whom he shared a wonderful life. Together they enjoyed traveling, exercising, outdoor activities, and especially socializing with friends and family. He was the proud father of four children: sons Michael (girlfriend Bonnie Mould), Richard (d. 1990), and Philip, as well as a daughter, Laurie Chiffy Steele (husband Russell) and grandchildren Trey and Frank.

He was predeceased by his former wife and mother of his children, Carol Jean Nudo (d. 2000) and his two siblings, brother, Alexander (d. 1991) survived by his former wife, Rosemary Chiffy, and sister Concetta (d. 2017) survived by her husband, James DeAngelo.

Frank is also survived by his wife's three children: Gineene Comito Paulson (husband Robert), granddaughter Gillian Wenner (Fiance John Burger), Karen Comito Carbone (husband Steven), and Joseph A Comito, Jr., grandchildren Joseph and Mackenzie. Additionally, Frank is also survived by his wife's two sisters: Angela Matuella (husband John) and Gloria Shaw (husband Kenneth), along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family wishes to sincerely thank the staff of the Donald J. Mitchell VA Clinic in Rome, NY as well as the entire staff at The Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing Center at Utica for the compassionate care they afforded to Frank and his family.

In the spirit of his kind and giving nature, Frank has donated his body to Upstate Medical Center. Frank's Celebration of life will be held Friday June 9, 2023 at 12:30 p.m. at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel / Blessed Sacrament Parish where a mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by the Rev. James Cesta, with military honors conferred.
