She was born April 27, 1921 in Peoria, IL; the daughter of Harrison and Clara Maude Belford Keltner. She married R. L. Doherty on December 10, 1941 in Iowa and he preceded in death on November 30, 1960. She later married Ralph C. Cox on September 25, 1963 at Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian Church in rural Virginia, IL and he preceded in death on February 16, 2002.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary Ann Jokisch (husband, Roger) of rural Virginia; five grandchildren; several great grandchildren; a brother, Homer Keltner of Jacksonville; a sister, Harriet K. Cox of Inverness, FL; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Joseph "Mike" Doherty and Edgar "Butch" Doherty; three brothers; and five sisters.
Mrs. Cox was employed over 25 years by Nesco, Kordite, and Mobil Chemical in Jacksonville prior to her retirement. Along with her husband, she owned and operated several rental properties in the Virginia area. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Virginia and enjoyed cooking and baking for many friends and neighbors along with providing baked goods for many church and community events.
Graveside funeral services will be held 1:30 PM Sunday, March 9, 2008 at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia with the Rev. Albert Smith officiating. There will be no visitation. Memorial gifts are suggested to the Service Guild of First Presbyterian Church, 281 E. Hardin, Virginia, IL 62691. The Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home of Virginia is in charge of the arrangements.
