A gloom of sadness was cast over Petty when the news came Christmas Day that Mrs. Mary Etta Ryan, wife of Herman Ryan, had died at her home just this side of High. Mrs. Ryan gave birth to twins, a son and daughter, Friday night, who only lived a few hours. Mrs Ryan had pneumonia for a week, and everything was done to relieve and save this dear woman's life, but to no avail. She was a good neighbor and friend and always had a pleasant smile and cheering word for friends and all those in distress or trouble.
Mrs. Ryan had been a very efficient and popular postmistress at High for many years, and the many patrons and friends are sad over her passing and paid tribute by going through the terribly muddy road to Hickory Grove cemetery, where burial was given beside the babies, who
were buried Saturday afternoon. A beautiful tribute was paid to this good woman by Rev. Mr. Kerr of Brookston and pastor of the High church.
Mrs. Ryan was reared near Harmon. She is survived by her husband, Herman Ryan; mother; Minnie Love; three sisters, Willie Lankford, Verna Boyd and Opal Pearson; three brothers; Ed Love, Raymond Love, and Houston Love; and many other relatives.
