Miami Shores, Florida - Joe passed peacefully on June 2, 2023. Joe's long and full life was one of service and devotion to his faith, family, friends, and community.
Joe was born and raised in New Haven, Connecticut. During World War II, Joe served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a B-17 pilot. Medals received by Joe include the Purple Heart, Air Medal and Prisoner of War Medal. After his service in World War II, Joe attended the College of Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts, where his activities included the varsity baseball and track team. In 1951, Joe joined the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) as a Special Agent. He served in the FBI for 27 years, working in the Washington, DC, New York, and Miami offices. On April 28, 1956 he married Joan Georgitson. After retiring from the FBI, Joe became the Executive Director of Public Safety at the University of Miami (UM). He was a member of the UM Iron Arrow Honor Society. After retiring from UM, Joe volunteered as a physical education teacher and assistant coach for over 20 years at St. Rose of Lima Elementary School, where many of his grandchildren attended.
Joe was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Joan. He is survived by his five children, Kathleen Kelley (Allan), Carol Anne, Thomas (Jennifer), Joseph Jr., and Paul (Tina). "Poppy" also is survived by 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Visitation hours will take place on Sunday, June 11th at Gregg L. Mason Funeral Home, 10936 NE 6th Avenue, Miami, from 4:00-6:00pm. A funeral mass will follow Monday, June 12th at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 415 NE 105th Street, Miami Shores, at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Rose of Lima School Athletic Fund, in memory of Joe Frechette.
