A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 2, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. in Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Lafayette for Calvin Theodore "Ted" Guidry, 71, who passed away Thursday, May 25, at his residence.

The Reverend Monsignor Richard Greene will officiate at the service. Concelebrants will be: Reverend Monsignor Jefferson J. DeBlanc, Pastor of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church; Reverend Randall Moreau, Parochial Vicar of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church; Reverend Michael Russo, Pastor of St. Anne Catholic Church in Youngsville. The Most Reverend Glen John Provost, Bishop of the Diocese of Lake Charles, will be in attendance.

He is survived by his beloved wife of fifty years, Norma Thomas Guidry of Lafayette; two daughters, Amy Elizabeth Guidry Perez and her husband, Brian, of Baton Rouge and Ashley Elizabeth Guidry Altimus and her husband, Matt, of Shreveport; five grandchildren, Braxton Christopher Perez, Caroline Elizabeth Perez, William Christian Altimus, Catherine Elizabeth Altimus, and Ethan James Altimus, sister Christine Guidry Adams and her husband William E. Adams of Sunset; two sisters-in-law, Brenda Thomas Gayle and her husband Randall of Houston, Texas and Sandra Thomas Brantley and her husband, Michael, of Lafayette; and numerous nieces, nephews and godchildren.

Ted was preceded in death by his son, Adam Theodore Guidry; his parents Yvonne Sibille Guidry and Calvin Joseph Guidry, his mother-in-law, Wilma Dohman Thomas and father-in-law, Lionel John Thomas and his nephew, Justin Michael Brantley.

Ted was a longtime resident of Lafayette. He graduated from Our Lady of Fatima Catholic School where he was a member of the football team. Ted formed close relationships at this time -many that began in his early years at Fatima. After graduation, he attended USL and earned his Juris Doctorate from LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center in 1974.

He returned to Lafayette and began a successful career in law. Ted specialized in real estate, estate planning, and commercial law. He earned a reputation as a well -respected attorney for almost fifty years.

Ted's kind and generous life was paralleled by his dedication to the Lafayette community. As a young man, he attained the rank of Eagle Scout. Due to the loss of his young son Adam, Norma and Ted were committed to the mission and needs of Camp Bon Coeur for many years. Ted was also a board member of Grief Center which is currently known as Healing House.

Driven by a strong, spiritual faith, Ted dedicated himself to Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church as a Parish Trustee for over thirty years (a job he thought would last only three years.) He had the honor of working with four successive pastors during his tenure. Increasing his involvement, Ted was a Eucharistic Minister, Usher, and a member of the Pastoral and Finance Counsel. He was also a member of the Diocesan Financial Board for the Diocese of Lafayette.

LSU football season was always a highlight for Ted. Sporting events afforded him the opportunity to demonstrate his barbeque and bartending skills-much to the delight of his family and friends. And then there was Carnival season. Ted was a member of the Krewe of Gabriel in which he served as a Duke and frequent float rider. He was also a past member of the Krewe of Bonaparte.

Ted was passionate about music, history, gardening, fishing and camping trips. He was an avid reader with an extensive library. After traveling with Norma to Italy, Ted became enamored with the Italian culture, history and language. He studied the Italian language as a member of a weekly Italian group. Likewise, he looked forward to spending time with his family on their annual beach vacations.

Jovial, good-natured, and a friend to all, Ted never complained despite his struggle with daily persistent headaches and chronic back pain.
To quote his nephew Paul, "Ted was an example of how to be: how to be a husband, how to be a father, how to be a grandfather, how to be a friend and how to be a professional with integrity. Much like Christians strive to be like Jesus, knowing they will always fall short - I always wanted to be like Ted."

The family requests that services be observed on Friday, June 2, 2023 beginning with a rosary at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church followed by visitation until 12:00 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Brian Perez, Matt Altimus, Braxton Perez, William Altimus, Paul Angelle, and Ken Judice.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Clay Judice, Dr. Richard Bourgeois, Dr. Jerome Alesi, Dickie Billeaud, Ethan Altimus, and André Angelle.
