Hi there, this is a member of my family, and her actual birthdate was April 28, 1896. She was born in Birdseye, Dubois County, Indiana to Phillip Schlacter and Josephine Ashcraft. She had a sister named Ida B. and a brother named John Michael. In 1899 Emma was given to her mother Josephine's sister, Anna Ashcraft Kress and Anna's husband Amos, to raise along with Emma's brother John because her father Phillip had died and her mother Josephine was not able to take care of three small children. The Kress family moved to Memphis Tennessee and took Emma and John with them, and raised them with the Kress name. Emma's birth name is Schlacter. I believe that the middle initial of "S" is for Schlacter.
