A lifelong resident of Fredericksburg, she was a graduate of Mount Vernon College. She met the love of her life, Sam, while on a blind date at the Virginia Military Institute; they married in 1950.
Betty was a member of the Anne Page Garden Club and a longtime member of St. George's Episcopal Church. She served as tour guide at Kenmore in Fredericksburg for more than 20 years. She had a lifelong love of history and was passionate about preserving history. Her greatest joy and true legacy was as a mother and a loving friend to all.
She was predeceased by her husband Samuel E. Saunders Jr., DDS; daughter, Elizabeth (Liz) Kennedy Saunders, DDS; twin sister Gloria Berberich; and sister Jennelle Covert.
Survivors include her sons, Samuel (Mary) of Charlottesville and David (Barbara) of Richmond; daughter Jennelle S. Williams, MD (Scott) of Chapel Hill, NC; seven grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 2nd at St. George's Episcopal Church in Fredericksburg Virginia. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 3rd at Harewood Cemetery.
