Betty was born on January 11, 1919 in Marshalltown the daughter of Jacob and Jeanne Banzaf. She grew up in Marshalltown where she graduated from Marshalltown High School. After graduating from high school, she graduated from private Secretarial School in Chicago, after which she returned to Marshalltown and held a number of positions including personal assistant to the Commandant of the Iowa Veteran's Home. She married her husband Robert Hurlbutt on December 26, 1942 and lived most of her life in Marshalltown. Prior to retirement, she was employed by the Marshalltown Area Community Hospital and Willard's Furs. Betty lived in Des Moines for the past eleven years.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert B. and her daughter Harriet Joan. She is survived by her son Robert J. of Des Moines; daughter, Rhonda Kay (Robert) Taggart of Des Moines; granddaughter Linnea (Matt) Wolf and three great-grandchildren, Matthew, Abby and Sarah of Canton, OH.
