Rebecca Frances Vale Burton, 95, of Norborne, died Monday, March 17, 2008, at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond.

Frances was born Dec. 14, 1912, northwest of Norborne, the daughter of John Isaac and Mary Elizabeth (Scheible) Vale. She married first James Blain Carter in 1932. She married second, Austin Wayne Burton on Jan. 12, 1945. He preceded her in death on Feb. 10, 1972.

Survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Billy Blaine Carter and his wife, Patty, of Norborne; one granddaughter; one grandson; two great-grandsons; one great-granddaughter; one sister and brother-in-law, Lillian I. Graham and her husband, Wendell, of Kansas City, Mo.; and two nephews.

In addition to her husband, her parents, one sister, Mary Mae Wade, preceded her in death.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Teacher Education Scholarship Fund at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, March 19, at the Thurman Funeral Home in Norborne. An Order of the Easter Star service will be held at 7 p.m. prior to the visitation. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 20, at the Norborne United Methodist Church in Norborne. Burial will be at Fairhaven Cemetery in Norborne.
