Mack Dan Atkinson, Sr. passed away on May 20, 2011. He was born June 15, 1931 in Gruver, Texas to Meredith Phillips Atkinson and Tennessee "Tennie" Waller Atkinson, the middle of three sons.

Mack grew up in the Texas panhandle with his parents, brothers and a large extended family of aunts, uncles and many cousins. He attended Dumas High School and received his GED after entering the US Navy to serve his country during the Korean War. As a young father, Mack worked for Phillips Petroleum and went on to a distinguished career with Prudential Insurance before retiring for health reasons. Mack enjoyed and had a talent for leather work and gardening including the design and building of his beautiful gardens.

Mack was preceded in death by his parents, his older brother Tom and wife Darlene Marcum Atkinson.

He is survived by his children Sharon (Steve) McClelland, Valerie Mullins, Mack Dan Atkinson, Jr. (Shirley) and David Atkinson (Lorrie); his grandchildren Paul (Sara), Thomas (Claire) and Chris (Angie) Bauman, Ashley and Matthew Mullins, Joseph and Lauren Atkinson and Heather (Josef) Willingham, Brad Atkinson, Jacob and Christopher Obier. He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren, his brother Gene (Martha) Atkinson and family; and his best friend and the mother of his children, Edie Baird.

The family wishes to thank members of Full Life Hospice and his caregivers at Clare Bridge Memory Care for the care and support shown.

Graveside services will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at Plano Mutual Cemetery, Plano, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mack's name to the Alzheimer's charity of your choice.
