Conrad Neuton Pleasants, 88, formerly of Charlottesville, died peacefully at his home in Richmond on Friday, March 21, 2008. Born in Alberene, Virginia on May 12, 1919, he was the son of the late Robert Beauregard Pleasants and Annie Flowers Woody Pleasants. Two brothers, Marcus and Jackson Pleasants, and a sister, Doris Pleasants Wood, also predeceased him.
A graduate of Red Hill High School, Conrad joined the Charlottesville police force before being drafted into the U.S. Army during World War II. After the war he returned to Charlottesville to continue his law enforcement career until his retirement in 1979.

Conrad was the devoted husband of his wife of 29 years, Phyllis Rodgerson Pleasants, Ph.D. He is also survived by a sister, Frances Pleasants Angell of Scottsville; his parents-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Phillip E. Rodgerson; cousins David Pleasants and his wife Elaine, Gary Pleasants; five nephews: Robert Pleasants, Jackson Pleasants, Wayne Pleasants, Daniel Rodgerson and Paul Rodgerson; one niece; Carly Rodgerson; a brother-in-law, Thomas Rodgerson and his wife Beverly; a sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Hess and her partner Diane Hoover; and faithful friends and caregivers, Jane Green, Mike Harton, Gracie Crawley-Reed, Sara Cody and Katie Jantzi.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2008 at 2:00 pm in the Hill and Wood Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Malcolm L. Marler officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Alberene Cemetery.
