Mary Jane Ecker, age 94, of Westminster, formerly of New Windsor, died Friday, May 26, 2023 at Sinai Hospital, Baltimore. Born June 10, 1928 at Jordan's Retreat, near New Windsor, she was the daughter of the late David Baile Haines and Effie Irene Bair Haines. She was the wife of the late Everett Roland Ecker whom she married April 6, 1947 and who died in January, 1996.
She was a graduate of Westminster High School class of 1945. After graduation she attended cosmetology school and worked in that field until her first child was born. Over the years, she worked at Ben's Menswear and was secretary and treasurer of Carroll County Farm Bureau, taught Sunday school and was a 4-H leader. Later along side her husband she owned New Windsor Hardware. When her husband passed in 1996, she operated the store with her son until closing the business and retiring. In 2020, she moved to assisted living at Carroll Lutheran Village. Her lifelong were passions gardening, cooking, all kinds of needlework and spending time with her friends and family. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and was a charter member of the New Windsor Fire Company Auxiliary.
Surviving are daughter-in-law, Brenda Caple Ecker; grandchildren, Michelle Middaugh and partner Bob; Ben Middaugh and wife Amy, Justin Middaugh, Dustin Middaugh and wife Dawn and former son-in-law, Carl Middaugh and wife Jill; great grandchildren, Maclain, Samantha, Keegen, Coby, Callie and Lyndie, and nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she is predeceased by daughter, Linda Middaugh (2003) son, Everett "Ed" R. Ecker Jr. (2013) and all of her siblings.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Inurnment will be in St. James United Methodist Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
