Richard "Dick" John Forrest, Sr., 87, of Carlsbad, NM, passed away Saturday, May 27, 2023 in Lubbock, TX. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 2, 2023 at First Methodist Church with Pastor Scott Meador officiating. Interment will follow at Carlsbad Cemetery. Visitation will be 1-6 p.m. Thursday at West Funeral Home.

Richard "Dick" John Forrest, Sr. and his identical twin brother Robert "Bob" H. Forrest were born to Elvin Nelson Forrest, Sr. and Gentry Ann (Hudnell) Forrest on June 12, 1935 in Albuquerque, NM. At age 7 he and his family relocated to Carlsbad, NM, so his father could open a tire business. He was raised and educated in Carlsbad, graduating from CHS with the Class of 1954 before attending Texas Western, now known as the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) and graduating with a B.S. in Business Administration.

Dick and Betty Jean Worsham Forrest were married July 16, 1955 at First United Methodist Church in Carlsbad. After graduating from college Dick and Betty returned to Carlsbad where Dick joined the family business at Forrest Tire. He eventually retired from Forrest Tire in 1995, following at that point, an almost lifetime career in the tire business.

While in school Dick participated in the ROTC program and was known for his outstanding football skills. Following a successful high school football career Dick went on to play for the UTEP Miners where he served as Team Captain, Sun Bowl Captain, was named All Boarder Conference Tight End and was drafted by the Green Bay Packers. Soon thereafter Dick was named to the Carlsbad Cavemen Football Hall of Fame and was Re-inducted in 1998.

During his "Semi" retirement years he enjoyed spending time with his family watching them compete at their respective sporting events, quail hunting, fishing, spending time at the family ranch in Colorado and most of all tending to his pecan orchard.

Dick was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church where he enjoyed serving on many boards and committees throughout his lifetime. He also served on the CID Board, Landsun Board and the Sacramento Assembly Board where he headed the fund-raising effort for a much-needed building that would eventually be named, "The Forrest Lodge". He was also a member of B.P.O.E. 1558 and Carlsbad Shriner's Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Brad J. Forrest, brother Elvin N. Forrest, Jr. and wife Betty Ann, brother-in-law Hefty Wilson and nephew Gary Don Forrest.

Dick is survived by his wife Betty Jean Forrest, son Richard J. Forrest, Jr. and wife Susan of Carlsbad, NM; daughters Sherry and husband Paul Campbell of Hobbs, NM and Collette and husband Warren Breedlove of Lubbock, TX; twin brother Robert "Bob" H.
