HARLEY BEEBE, 87 LOVES PARK - Harley Beebe, 87, passed away peacefully June 19, 2013, at River Bluff Nursing Home. He was born on September, 4, 1925, in Richland Center, Wisconsin, to James and Stella Beebe, one of their five children, He grew up along the Wisconsin River banks, graduated from Blue River High School in 1943, and joined the U.S. Marines, serving as a radio operator on Iwo Jima and Guam. After his discharge, he enrolled in Brooks Institute of Photograph in Santa Barbara, graduating in 1950. He was employed summers by Haynes Picture Shops in Yellowstone Park, where in 1949, he met his wife, Marilyn. They married in 1949 and lived in Santa Barbara until moving back to the Midwest. They have three children, Beth Manning (David), Brian (Linda) and Barbara Runte (Kent) and five grandchildren, Rob and Joe Beebe, Michael Manning, and Nichole and Ryan Speer. He purchased his first camera shop in Loves Park and later bought the Campers Shop which led them to enjoy camping and canoeing. They became active volunteers in the area for many local organizations, particularly Loves Park Lions Club, their church, Lifescape, Northern Illinois Food Bank and Rockford Food Pantry. His memorial service will be held Saturday, June 29, at Bethany Presbyterian Church, 5403 North Second Street, Loves Park, with visitation at 10 a.m., and worship service at 11 a.m. Memorials may be given to Bethany Church or to River Bluff Nursing Home where he received such loving care.
