ELIZABETH A.M. JACKSON

Elizabeth Ann Marek Jackson departed this life on Tuesday Jan. 17, 2012. A member of Tabernacle Church, Ann was born in 1931 and raised on Eanes Road in Matoaca by her parents, the late George Milton and Nancy Belcher Marek.
Ann was the widow of James Jackson and was also predeceased by brothers, Harvey Holley Willie Holley and Frank Marek.
After a 30 year career as an instructor for Allied Fibers, E. Ann established E. Ann Jackson Inc. Under her guidance, her small construction company blossomed into a well-respected DBEWBE firm completing large tunnel and bore contracts across many states. Overcoming the obstacles of being a female in a typically male field, and a specialty contractor, Ann served on the Governor's Advisory Board and was awarded the Virginia Department of Minority Business Enterprise Best of the Best Award. In addition to her impeccable work ethic, Ann will be remembered for her love of flowers, and all things colorful. She loved the outdoors, whether deep sea fishing or gardening. Ann was an avid cook and enjoyed canning from her garden and was known for her many varieties of Christmas candies. She had an ability to make every child feel special, and was an important part of the lives of many nieces, nephews, children of employees, and neighborhood children. Ann leaves to cherish her memory a devoted immediate family: son, Michael Wayne Jackson; granddaughter, Marissa Reed; great-granddaughter, Aubri-enne; sister, Mary Campbell; loving extended Jackson family; numerous nieces and nephews, including Sandra Campbell, Frankie Marek and David (Plasma) Wade. She is also survived by devoted friends, Linda Black and Martha Howlett. Ann was lovingly cared for in her last days by a team including Crater Community Hospice, Shellie, Marissa, Aubri, Bobby Doris, and Takeisha. A celebration of Ann's life will be held at the family home. Friends and family are invited anytime beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday Jan. 28, 2012, and continuing throughout the weekend. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to Crater Community Hospice, 3916 S. Crater Road, Petersburg, VA 23805. Arrangements by the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes Crematory, 2033 Boulevard.
