Frederick H. Miller, Jr. ("Fred") passed away at home on Friday, February 10, 2023, at the age of 76. Fred was born in Newark, NJ on October 15, 1946. Fred was a graduate of Newark Academy, Newark, NJ (1965).

He received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Washington and Jefferson College, Washington, PA (1969). While in Washington, PA he met a host of lifelong friends; even a best friend whom he met over tracking down the aroma of a good cigar. Fred received his Juris Doctor from George Washington University School of Law, Washington, D.C. (1972). He was a member of the Virginia Bar Association and Hampton Bar Association.

In 1976 he established Miller and Associates, Attorney at Law in Middleburg, VA. While in Middleburg he continued his journey of love of horses; foxhunting, carriage driving, and equestrian events. Fred went foxhunting in Ireland, and once took a trip to drive carriages in England in which he had the privilege of meeting Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles. In 1998 he began practicing law in Hampton, VA and soon established Frederick H. Miller, Jr. and Associates PC. Fred loved spending his spare time traveling with his wife, especially in Luray, VA. His compassion for people and dynamic personality earned him the trust of many. He was a great conversationalist, history buff, and knowledgeable on all things about the Civil War.

Fred is survived by his wife of 19 years, Celeste; her immediate family, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and countless friends and colleagues. He is preceded in death by his father, Frederick H. Miller, Sr. and his mother Vera McInerey. After Fred's diagnosis of stage 4 pancreatic cancer in late December 2022, he didn't dwell on the bleak odds. While in the hospital a nursed asked him why he was there, he responded "cancer ruined my life." But he still valiantly and courageously fought against the cancer all while knowing "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me."

A memorial service, officiated by Reverend David Goodpasture, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 22, 2023, at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, Newport News, VA. Interment, officiated by Reverend Debbie Powell, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at Elk Run Cemetery, Elkton, VA.

Flowers are welcome, and other contributions in Fred's honor can be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) of Hampton, Post 3219 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
