It is with profound sadness that the family of Fern Ellene Roberts "GramGram," of Hendersonville, NC, announces her passing on Sunday, February 12, 2023, at the age of 84. Fern passed peacefully with her close family by her side. Fern was born in Poteau, OK on Tuesday, May 24, 1938, to the late Leslie Allen Fox and Lyda Mae Fox-Ault. Fern is also preceded in death by her husband of many years, Jack Gilbert Roberts; and her brothers, Donald, Bruce, and Doug, who were all there to meet her in heaven.Prior to living in North Carolina, Fern made her home in California for many years. Fern was a high school graduate of Paramount High School, in Paramount, CA. While Fern worked a few part-time jobs throughout her adulthood, her primary passion was taking care of her family. She was a dedicated mother and housewife for many years.Fern was an avid gardener and enjoyed growing fruits and vegetables in her backyard. She enjoyed teaching her daughters how to make jam from the fruit she grew and shared many of her special recipes with them. She enjoyed raising chickens, ducks, and a few goats. Fern also loved her dogs. Left to cherish Fern's memory are her daughters, Stephanie Gunter (William) of Hendersonville, NC and Jennifer Birkenbach of California; grandchildren, Bryan Waldren of California, Jill Kimura (Shawn), Jessica Koon (Seth), Daniel Becerra, Valerie Prindle (Jaycee), Matthew Birkenbach, and Brandon Birkenbach; great-grandchildren, Justin Waldren, Naomi Kimura, Julie Kimura, Gabriella Conner, Leon Birkenbach, Kairi Birkenbach, Elaina Conner, Olivia Waldren and Haley Jackson (not by blood, by choice); and sister, Shirley Heath (Brian) of Cerritos, CA. Fern is also survived by many cousins, friends, and old neighbors who all hold a special place in their hearts for her.Fern's wishes were to be cremated and inurned with her husband, Jack Roberts. Fern's family is honoring her wishes of having an intimate ceremony by planning a private celebration of life for a later date."Mom loved wind chimes and hummingbirds, and whenever we hear the wind softly blow through our wind chimes or see a hummingbird flit through our yard, we will think of her and remember her with all of our hearts!" ~Your loving daughter, Stephanie.
